Big Dog Works Out - Redux

Postby BigDog » Wed Jul 16, 2008 12:11 pm

This spring I was doing stretching (band) exercises to try and treat my rotator cuff tear. I did them (mostly) and got a good result (reduced pain, increased range of motion, etc.) Dr. gave me instructions on where to go from here, but hopefully didn't need to see me again. Part of the deal was that I continue to do the stretching exercises x many times a week. Sadly, I've let it all slip and I'm starting to feel more pain in the shoulder, so I need to get back to it.

So this will be another attempt at a health log, perhaps with food logging (see the Dr. Aukerman thread). I'm going to set a 180 day goal for myself to see what progress I can make on general health, weight, shoulder pain, etc.

Stretching:
- Doorknob band work (R&L, 4 exercises, 15 reps/ 3 sets)
- staff work (R&L, 15 reps)
- Corner/Wall Pushups (15 reps)
'Lifting'
- weights (Vertical Arm thrust, face-down wing extension, 15 reps each)
- sit-ups (0)

Food:
AM - none
PM - 1 slice blueberry pie, Chicken/Lettuce/Avacado/Tomato Sandwich, Blueberry yougurt, chicken burrito, last slice of pie

-----

PM - habilut, potatoes, brocolli, cookies, crackers (finished off my Pantry of Evil)

-----

Looks interesting Big Dog. Good luck. I do have one suggestion and a question. First the suggestion. You might make each day a separate post. This means that people will also see the new post and are more likely to check it out. As for the question, I am curious what the goal is? Is it to just track everything for six months, or are you looking for specific results on weight or eating habits?

Separate posts. Makes sense.

The goal is to adjust eating based on Dr. Aukerman's recommendations (or at least try to leverage some enthusiasm for that to eat better than I have been). If weight is lost, great. If my bloodwork improves, that will be the real success.

It is also intended to keep me on track with doing my stretching exercises for my shoulder now that I've confirmed that not doing them eventually returns me to a more painful situation.

Summary since last post:

Back pain showed up on 7/24 which has laid me up. Doing accupuncture for it.
weighed 280# on Monday, which could have been a lot worse.
Starting to walk the dogs in the morning again now that Clifford appears to have healed from his broken toe. (starting slowly, working back up to 2miles).
I've been eating a little bit better, less drive-through junk.
Once I get the back settled down again, I'll get back to my stretches/light lifting... though my shoulder isn't really bothering me right now so I find it easy to skip it. Should be doing it anyway.
